Closed loop is an Abakus offering which allows Abakus to pass attributed conversions/revenue into execution platforms, data warehouses, or other 3rd party systems. The number of closed loops that you can request from Abakus will be based on the terms of your contract.
Abakus has an API-based closed loop integration with DoubleClick Search (DS). The article below will help you with the steps to request that this feature be enabled. Once the data is passed back it will be available in the DS UI for reporting purposes as well as for setting up automated bid strategies.
I. Determine Metrics Required in DS
Abakus can pass two app-based metrics into DS: Attributed Conversions and Attributed Revenue. Remember that attributed revenue is only available if your Abakus integration includes revenue.
Abakus considers sending revenue, conversions or both as one closed loop per terms of the contract. Even though sending conversions and revenue technically requires two closed loops.
II. Create Floodlight Tag in DS
If not already created, please create a new Floodlight tag in DS. This step cannot be done in DCM (DoubleClick Campaign Manager), it must be done within DS. You can access this area of DS through the "Advertiser Settings" menu on the left (see screen shot below), then click on "Floodlight Activities". If you do not have this menu, then you will need to find your DS administrator or request assistance from your Google Account Rep to assist you with these steps.
Enter or select from the highlighted fields shown in the screen shot below. If creating a tag to store conversions, you could name it "Abakus Conversions" or if creating a tag to store revenue you could name it "Abakus Revenue". The name does not matter to Abakus, so please choose something that will integrate well into your day-in-the-life of reporting and optimization.
Please remember, if you want conversions AND revenue, this will require two tags to be created.
III. Create Access for Abakus To DS
If not already done, please make sure Abakus' email (email@example.com) is granted access to DS. This may likely already be done if Abakus is pulling paid search cost data for your integration with Abakus.
Rights can be granted at an agency level or an advertiser level. The following shows the DS screen where user rights are granted:
NOTE: If granting agency rights, please select either "Agency Manager" or "Agency User". If granting advertiser rights, please select either "Advertiser Manager" or "Advertiser User". Please do NOT select "Advertiser Viewer" as this will not provide sufficient rights to upload conversions into DS.
For more information around user rights in DS, please review their help article located at: https://support.google.com/ds/
IV. File Ticket
Enter the Abakus Support Center via the help icon in the upper right corner of the Abakus application. Then click on "Submit a request" link in the upper right corner of the Support Center.
In the description, please make sure to include the following information for EACH closed loop to be setup:
- DS Floodlight Tag Name
- Abakus Campaign (Segment) Name
- Abakus Metric: please choose from Conversions or Revenue
- Date: this is the date from which you want data to be backfilled into DS. Please confirm in the Abakus application that daily data exists for this campaign from this date forward.
Once the ticket is filed, someone from the Professional Services team will be in touch to confirm the setup, details and the timeline in which the request will be completed.
